Lana wrote an entry in her blog the other day that reminded me about an aspect of blogging -- Tone. Whenever I read bloggers the tone is often any combination of pensive, dark, gloomy, excited, informative, funny, or profound.
I had commented that 'it is also interesting to note that our posting tones are often quite different from who we are in real life. Often times when you are in a great mood you're just too busy to post, so blog posts inevitably reflect a slightly darker version of the poster.'
How true does this become?
The way you act in front of your computer is and perhaps should be different than the way you might act in front of people such as friends and relatives. Every situation produces a different mood and tone in people -- even if that variation is only slight.
I have many other parts of my personality, but I don't think I'll ever share my goofier, sexier, sadder, insecure, etc. sides of myself here.
Posted by David at September 23, 2004 12:13 PMDavid, that is true, you aren't all the sexy on your blog, but it's all good...i always enjoy the tone of your writing...
So what is the tone of my blog? How would you categorize the "diabloglical" mood?
Posted by: Joy at September 24, 2004 01:57 PMIn my opinion there are two main types of bloggers:
The therapy seeking bloggers tend to delve out all of their complaints before they share any of their achievements. On the other spectrum of this online world are the bloggers that use this technology as a form of life documentation. Documenting bloggers are more likely to keep a more accurate portal of there inner most feelings and tend to be more reliable when it comes to expressing who they are.
True LK. So true. I don't think that it's a big deal that we're not the same on blog as in real life. I don't like that can be accomplished because of how impersonal everything is on a blog compared to a live conversation. Nonetheless, I love blogging and wouldn't give it up for anything (except God).
